The Youth Network Project will assist in building connections that will mitigate feelings of loneliness and isolation brought on by the pandemic.

Built for QTBIPOC students in Ontario, this free online program is a chance for students and educators to learn more about how our unique identities impact our lives and the world around us through educational workshops teaching students peer-to-peer support strategies, critical thinking, and empowerment.

Facilitators will provide a dynamic, interactive space for youth to gain deeper empathy and compassion for their peers, community members, through engaging activities such as art, poetry, writing, and other mediums.

Resources
Although career development theories underline the central role of information in career choice and studies show that guidance practitioners are among the main information sources of people making career choices, the actual information practices of these practitioners in their career interventions remain fragmented. Moreover, the studies on the theme of career choice associating information, information sources and information practices (whether it is among guidance practitioners or individuals in career choice) offer little conceptualization on these notions.

These resources are offered free of charge. You'll be asked to register and/or login prior to downloading material.

All AgScape classroom programs and resources are designed to reflect our core values in providing factual and non-biased information to ensure a balanced presentation of facts.

Meaningful career development creates opportunity for schools to improve student engagement and outcomes.
It’s not every day you hear about a high school student interested in entering the funeral business, but Christine McKie, Principal at Crowsnest Consolidated High School in Alberta, can tell you about two. At the rural Alberta school, students are exposed to professionals across a wide range of careers, from pharmacists to pilots to – yes – funeral directors.

What McKie calls a "human library" of professional connections, cultivated by divisional Career Practitioner Lettie Croskery, is only one part of Crowsnest’s commitment to preparing its roughly 280 students for life outside of school. In addition to job shadowing, individual career guidance and industry presentations, the school has spread the provincially mandated careers course over three years, so that students have weekly exposure to career-related learning.

The Labour Market Information Council (LMIC) presents a series of webinars on emerging labour market information in Canada, sharing research and analysis which supports career practitioners in their work to ensure Canadians have the necessary information and insights to succeed in a changing, dynamic world of work.

Many clients begin coaching after making progress in therapy, at which point they tackle dissatisfaction in their occupation. One could infer that career coaching is the after effect of taking strides towards mental health. However, recent studies have shown that the feeling of being unable to leave a non-desired occupation (NDO) and/or workplace, known as either singly or doubly "locked-in," strongly correlates with adverse mental health outcomes (Canivet et al., 2017). Given this, mental health professionals are encouraged to routinely screen patients and make referrals to career coaches as a primary tool in addressing mental illness.

The Ontario School Counsellors’ Association offers Additional  Qualification Courses in Guidance and Career Education Parts I, II and Specialist (Part III) in Winter, Spring and Summer and Fall.

OSCA’s online, interactive courses are user friendly and allow real-time practice of the skills needed for the effective Guidance Teacher-Counsellor. We have a virtual classroom where we meet in real time to practice counselling skills, listen to guest speakers, and watch videos.  This feature is very popular and it really makes OSCA’s AQ experience prominent.
