Let's Talk Science
Post Secondary Information

River

Greetings from Ryerson University,

We are interested in learning more from high school teachers and guidance counsellors about how we can effectively plan programming to meet the needs of our valued colleagues: secondary school teachers and guidance counsellors.

Please take a few moments to complete this survey. In this short survey, we ask that you share information on your preferred resources for supporting students and how you would best like to engage with our university community throughout the year.

We greatly appreciate your input! We encourage you to share this survey with your colleagues as well to provide feedback. If you have any questions or would like to share further feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time: guidance@ryerson.ca

We are pleased to invite you to a free, virtual Guidance Dialogues event on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Event Schedule

9 am-11 am: Main Presentation
We will provide a general update on recruitment activities and an update from the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.

Following these updates, representatives from each Ontario university will provide live admission updates and up-to-date information about their university. University updates will be given one at a time and each update will be approximately 4 minutes.

Counsellors will have the opportunity to submit recruitment and admission-related questions before the event. We will answer the most common questions following the university updates. More details will follow in October.

11:00 am-12:30 pm: Chat with Representatives
You will have the opportunity to engage directly with representatives from Ontario’s universities and the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre in their session rooms. They will be able to answer any questions you may have.

The majority of the event will be presented in English only. Some Ontario universities are bilingual, so attendees may have an opportunity to speak with university representatives in French.

Registration is required and will be available on the Guidance website in October. Please be advised that this event is for guidance counsellors only.

Please send all event inquiries to: onunirecruitment@gmail.com.

In light of the cancellation of the in-person 2021 Ontario Universities'' Fair and Regional Fairs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have combined these fairs to form the 2021 Ontario Universities'' Fairs (OUFs) virtual events.

Ontario's universities are excited to host the Ontario Universities'' Fairs virtual events in fall 2021. The Ontario Universities'' Fairs will consist of 2 virtual events:

Saturday, September 25, 12-2 pm (ET)
Tuesday, October 26, 5-7 pm (ET)

All Ontario universities will participate in these events. The events are free and anyone may attend - no registration required.

Each event will be divided up into four 30-minute sessions, where students can learn about the universities of their choice and ask questions.

For more information, visit the event website.

In addition to these 2 events, Ontario universities continue to offer their own virtual events and tours, webinars, chats and more. To see upcoming university virtual offerings, visit the Tours and Events section on the Ontario Universities'' Info website.

Samedi 25 septembre, de midi à 14 h (HE)
Mardi 26 octobre, de 17 h à 19 h (HE)

Resources
Few people face more uncertainty than recent college graduates. This year, which many of them spent at home taking classes online, they not only have to contend with the standard questions most young graduates face—where should I work? How do I get a job?—but they have to navigate a new work landscape, including the possibility of remote or hybrid workplaces.

The path has never been easy to navigate: When my cohost, Christina Royster, and I graduated several years ago, we faced several hiccups finding the right careers for us. Ultimately, things worked out and we both ended up at Fast Company.

To get our own answers about the challenges recent graduates face and advice on finding the right job, we spoke to Kentucky-based freelance journalist Rainesford Stauffer. Her new book, An Ordinary Age: Finding Your Way in a World That Expects Exceptional, explores the extraordinary pressure on young adults today, across our personal and professional lives, to pursue our "best life," whatever that even means.

Dear family, dear alumni,

Katimavik has always perceived its Participants and alumni as one big family, and those who always supported us, through the good, and through the challenging, times.

We would like to take this opportunity to talk to you today – to say thank you for your ongoing support, for keeping us inspired and determined to ensure that Katimavik is able to offer the experience to a growing number of youth.

Today, we have some great news we would like to share with you... But before, we would like to make a journey through our common history...
___________________________________________________________________________________

Many of us have experienced the exhilarating and scary process of transitioning from education into the so-called real world. Imagine this situation when an unprecedented, unanticipated event arrives – one that has a major (and sometimes devastating) impact on our life. Any semblance of excitement is displaced by uncertainty and confusion. Welcome to the world of the class of 2020.
We know that racialized youth face unique barriers in developing experience and finding jobs in nature-related activities. The lack of racialized people working in conservation and nature organizations is a barrier to youth seeing themselves in those roles. And we know that building a strong nature community that values, engages and ultimately mobilizes millions of nature lovers across the country means it is crucial that we engage all perspectives and all communities.

At Nature Canada, we are very excited to be able to offer this wage subsidy to employ BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) youth in nature organizations!

We are currently receiving applications for the wage subsidy. After applications are submitted, we hope to then be able to get back to people within two weeks.

Here are a few more details:
- Nature Canada will: providing a 50% wage subsidy to increase your capacity to hire youth aged 15-30, at $17.50/hour for up to 35 hours/week, for between 8 and 16 weeks creating learning and community-building opportunities raising the profile of our program partners and lifting up the voices of BIPOC youth participants through our communications avenues.
- If you are interested in being a hosting organization, you will commit to: providing an opportunity for youth to be exposed to a variety of meaningful work in nature conservation or appreciation having capacity to provide mentorship and support to youth showing interest or experience with equity, and anti-racism initiatives being willing to support youth in participating in program-wide initiatives having financial resources to pay the remaining wage cost.
