Welcome Message from OSCA/ACOSO President, Cathy Lihou

Change is all around us, and with it, OSCA is rolling into 2021 with a new Board of Directors!  It is my honour and privilege to accept the position of President of OSCA/ACOSO.  We are your organization so please continue to reach out any time - we welcome your input, suggestions and questions - we are here for YOU!  

I would like to take this time to thank Nicole Trotter, for her outstanding work at the helm of the OSCA/ACOSO ship during the tumultuous seas of 2020. She led our organization with optimism, creativity and resiliency through the COVID-19 waters and we have tremendous gratitude for this.

Alongside her, we had an incredibly supportive Board of Directors who worked continuously behind the scenes to keep our membership informed, support new avenues of professional development, and foster relationships with partners in Guidance and Career Education. Thank you to Emad Awadallah, Nicole Beuckelare, Martha Biagi, Jennifer Boston, Rod Conte, Kim Ennis-Hildebrand, Julie Fantinato, Launa Larlee, Natalie Middleton Bondy, Marie Moftah, and Gina Vincent for their dedication and hard work! Thank you to Angela Ventrice, our Additional Qualifications instructor, for helping to prepare new Guidance Counsellors for their exciting roles in our schools, and to Laura Ball, for the many hours of work required to keep our membership informed through our e-newletters. I would like to thank Art Barron as well, for his years of service as our Webmaster.

We had four Directors leave the Board this year and I would like to wish each of them happiness and success in their next journey. Nicole Beuckelare, we thank for her incredible work with our annual conferences, including the very efficient Sched App, highly engaging keynote speakers, and skilled trade advocacy. Emad Awadallah, we thank for his devotion to inclusivity, translating our information into French, and for his insightful suggestions during meetings. Natalie Middleton-Bondy, we thank for being the heart of our group, keeping us mindful about self-care and gratitude. Jennifer Boston, we thank for her many years of service to OSCA/ACOSO, as a Director, President, Past-President and mentor. Her history, insight and understanding have been vital to the continuance of this organization and we are very grateful that she has accepted the position of Office Administration Coordinator. 

We welcome several new Directors to our 2021 Board: Jessica Dulmage (Grand Erie District School Board), Lisa Butera-Fracassi (Toronto Catholic District School Board), Katrina Cove-Shannon (Waterloo Region District School Board), Susen Dupuis (Lambton Kent District School Board), and Kelly Stromme (Grand Erie District School Board).  We are very excited to begin work with this group as they bring unique skills and experiences to strengthen our organization.

I look forward to working with and learning from this incredible group of Guidance Counsellors in the year ahead. Our first meeting is this month – stay tuned for more information about professional development webinars, news as it pertains for Guidance and Career Educators, and the annual conference. We look forward to working with our long standing partners, developing new relationships, and continuing our advocacy for Guidance and Career Education in Ontario!

OSCA / ACOSO accueille son conseil d'administration pour 2021!

Le changement est partout autour de nous, et avec lui, OSCA se lance en 2021 avec un nouveau conseil d'administration! J'ai l'honneur et le privilège d'accepter le poste de présidente de l'OSCA / ACOSO. Nous sommes votre organisation, alors continuez à nous contacter à tout moment - nous apprécions vos commentaires, suggestions et questions - nous sommes là pour VOUS!

Je voudrais prendre ce temps pour remercier Nicole Trotter, pour son travail exceptionnel à la barre du navire OSCA / ACOSO pendant les mers tumultueuses de 2020. Elle a dirigé notre organisation avec optimisme, créativité et résilience à travers les eaux du COVID-19 et nous en sommes très reconnaissants. À ses côtés, nous avions un conseil d'administration incroyablement solidaire qui travaillait continuellement dans les coulisses pour tenir nos membres informés, soutenir de nouvelles voies de développement professionnel et favoriser les relations avec les partenaires de l'orientation et du développement professionnel. Merci à Emad Awadallah, Nicole Beuckelare, Martha Biagi, Jennifer Boston, Rod Conte, Kim Ennis-Hildebrand, Julie Fantinato, Launa Larlee, Natalie Middleton Bondy, Marie Moftah et Gina Vincent pour leur dévouement et leur travail acharné! Merci à Angela Ventrice, notre instructrice de qualifications additionnelles, pour avoir aidé à préparer les nouveaux conseillers en orientation à leurs rôles passionnants dans nos écoles, et à Laura Ball, pour les nombreuses heures de travail nécessaires pour tenir nos membres informés grâce à nos bulletins électroniques. Je tiens également à remercier Art Barron pour ses années de service en tant que Webmaster.

Nous avons eu quatre directeurs qui ont quitté le conseil cette année et je souhaite à chacune et chacun d'entre eux tout bonheur et succès dans leurs prochaines aventures. Nicole Beuckelare, nous la remercions pour son travail incroyable avec nos conférences annuelles, y compris l’application très efficace "Sched”, les conférenciers très engageants et le plaidoyer professionnel qualifié. Emad Awadallah, nous le remercions pour son dévouement à l'inclusivité, la traduction de nos informations en français, et pour ses suggestions perspicaces lors des réunions. Natalie Middleton-Bondy, nous la remercions d'être le cœur de notre groupe, en nous gardant attentifs aux soins personnels et à la gratitude. Jennifer Boston, nous la remercions pour ses nombreuses années au service de l'OSCA / ACOSO en tant que directrice, présidente, présidente sortante et mentor. Son histoire, sa perspicacité et sa compréhension ont été vitales pour la pérennité de cette organisation et nous lui sommes très reconnaissants d'avoir accepté le poste de coordonnatrice de l'administration du bureau.

Nous accueillons plusieurs nouveaux administrateurs au sein de notre conseil d'administration 2021: Jessica Dulmage (conseil scolaire du district de Grand Erie), Lisa Butera-Fracassi (conseil scolaire du district catholique de Toronto), Katrina Cove-Shannon (conseil scolaire du district de la région de Waterloo), Susen Dupuis (Conseil scolaire de district Lambton Kent) et Kelly Stromme (conseil scolaire du district du Grand Erie). Nous sommes très heureux de commencer à travailler avec ce groupe car ils apportent des compétences et des expériences uniques pour renforcer notre organisation.

J'ai hâte de travailler et d'apprendre de ce groupe incroyable de conseillers en orientation dans l'année à venir. Notre première réunion aura lieu ce mois-ci - restez à l'écoute pour plus d'informations sur les webinaires de développement professionnel, les nouvelles concernant les éducateurs d'orientation et de carrière, et la conférence annuelle. Nous sommes impatients de travailler avec nos partenaires de longue date, de développer de nouvelles relations et de poursuivre notre plaidoyer pour l'orientation et l'éducation au cheminement de carrière en Ontario!
