The automotive industry in Canada is one of the largest with 1-7 jobs tied directly or indirectly. That’s more than 700,000 jobs across Canada, and they pay well. We speak with new students all the time that are unaware of the career opportunities and where they exist. So we wanted to provide you with a breakdown that can help guide young people with their options in the automotive industry in Canada

Vehicle manufacturers produce and sell over 2 million vehicles each year, employing over 130,000 people. They have corporate head offices around the Greater Toronto Area, with some presence across the country to work with their dealerships.

There are over 3,200 new vehicle dealerships across the country employing over 140,000 people.
Everyone is aware of careers in sales or auto technician but many are not aware that dealerships offer a
variety of high-paying careers in every corner of the country.


The Aftermarket industry in the largest sector for employment, employing over 400,000 people. They
consist of parts and accessories manufacturers, distributors, and service/retail centres. There is a lot of
entrepreneurial opportunity to work across the country.


The automotive industry is going through a major transformation with huge technological
advancements. We are seeing the rise in vehicle automation, connected vehicles, electrification, and
shared vehicle ownership models. There are great career options throughout the country for those that
