You are invited to join a series of powerful, one-of-a-kind webinars on a host of diversity topics by world-renowned content experts from outside optometry. Called the ASCO Eye on Diversity Speaker Series, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Vision, this series of six powerful sessions will reveal unique insights and perspectives on diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging issues that face optometry students, residents, faculty, practitioners, and their staff members on a daily basis.
 
The Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, College of Optometry, is ASCO’s newest member and is scheduled to open in 2023. Located in Provo, Utah, the College of Optometry received preliminary accreditation in October and is accepting applications now. They anticipate enrolling their first class of about 60 students and start teaching in May 2023.
 
Beautiful San Diego was the backdrop for ASCO’s fall meetings in late October.
 
Prior to the Board of Directors meeting, deans and presidents along with OGML’s top sponsors devoted a morning to an Optometry Gives Me Life (OGML) brainstorming session.

Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry announces that Sherrol A. Reynolds, OD, FAAO, associate professor, is the recipient of the inaugural AAOF Excellence in Diversity Awareness and Education Award.
 
Three Southern College of Optometry students took home the top prize at this year’s Fifth Annual EssilorLuxottica Academic Challenge held during the American Academy of Optometry meeting in San Diego.

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is proud to announce that its College of Optometry earned the 2022 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. This is the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
 
Adrienne C. Quan, OD, FAAO, Assistant Professor at Chicago College of Optometry, Midwestern University was awarded the Beta Sigma Kappa (BSK) Research Fellowship by the American Academy of Optometry Foundation (AAOF) and was honored at Academy 2022 in San Diego, CA.
 
Two papers published recently in The Lancet Global Health mark an important milestone in the World Health Organization and partners’ efforts to propose inclusion of two indicators of eye care coverage into those of Universal Health Coverage and ultimately the global indicator framework for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
 
Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry (NSUCO) announces that Janet L. Leasher, OD, MPH, FAAO, FNAP, has been recognized as the Optometry Professor of the Year and is nominated for the President’s Distinguished Professor Award of Excellence for 2022.
