Experienced Educator and Leader Returns to Midwestern to Guide CCO
 
On July 29, Northeastern State University (NSU) leaders, tribal dignitaries, city and county leadership, state legislators, donors, students, and community members gathered to celebrate a vision—in every sense of the word.
 
Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Optometry held its white coat ceremony on Aug. 9 in Pomona, California. The ceremony capped off Welcome Week for first-year students, who were welcomed into the profession by donning their clinical white coats for the first time.
 
Lawrence Sincich, PhD, professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry was awarded a $2.1 million R01 grant to support a pioneering four-year research project titled, “Elementary Cone Photoreceptor Representation in Primary Visual Cortex” by the National Eye Institute.

UAB Optometry’s Private Practice Club was the recipient of the Preston Cup Award given by the Student Optometric Leadership Network. The honor was presented at the annual Student Private Practice Symposium and Leadership Conference.
 
Southern College of Optometry’s National Optometric Student Association (NOSA) student group took home the national NOSA Chapter of the Year Award in July.

Dr. Fitta’s story highlights her commitment to public health and how she has coordinated vision screenings at over 40 organizations and served more than 3,500 patients over the past year.
