Ophthalmic Optics Educators SIG Shines in the Arizona Sun

The Ophthalmic Optics Educators Special Interest Group (SIG) gathered July 24–26 at Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT) in Glendale, AZ, for a powerful three-day program packed with innovation, collaboration, and celebration.

The meeting kicked off with the prestigious Joseph L. Bruneni Award presentation, honoring Dr. William L. Brown of Rochester, MN, who delivered an inspiring keynote lecture to set the tone. Over the next two days, attendees dove into rich discussions and forward-thinking presentations exploring new technologies and the evolving challenges of teaching optics.

A highlight of the program was a tour of the AZCOPT clinic, featuring a live demonstration of the CAREN system, a cutting-edge, multi-sensory virtual reality platform used for advanced clinical evaluation and neuro-physical rehabilitation.

A special thank you to Dr. Michelle Hoff (University of California, Berkeley, Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science) current SIG Chair, for creating a meaningful and impactful agenda. And our deepest thanks to Dr. Alicia Feis, Dean of AZCOPT, and her outstanding team for being gracious hosts.
