ASCO Student Affairs Officers Meet at Illinois College of Optometry

After two years of virtual annual meetings, the ASCO Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) finally met in person at the Illinois College of Optometry on June 13-14. They discussed a variety of issues, including the Optometry Gives Me Life (futureeyedoc.org) public awareness campaign, OptomCAS, and the use of standardized exams in the admissions process.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Patrice Buckner Jackson who spoke to both the Chief Academic Officers and the SAOs on Recovery: Preparing for The New Normal after a crisis. Dr. Jackson founded EduCare Training and Consulting LLC and she offers executive training and coaching to groups and individuals who work from the heart, specifically student affairs professionals. Dr. Jackson will present a follow up session in the fall on the topic of burnout. The SAOs also enjoyed an evening networking reception at the VU in downtown Chicago.

ASCO would like to thank both Alcon and VSP Vision for their sponsorship of the SAO meeting.
