SCO Hosts Commencement Ceremony for Class of 2020
After being deferred nearly a year and half because of COVID-19, Southern College of Optometry formally welcomed the Class of 2020 back to Memphis for its official commencement ceremony. Held during the college’s Fall Homecoming and CE Weekend, the ceremony brought nearly 100 members of the 135 graduates in cap and gown to the Peabody Hotel.
In lieu of honorary degrees traditionally presented at commencement, SCO presented its Lifetime Achievement and Young Alumni Awards for outstanding accomplishments. The late Dr. Jeff Foster, a 1981 graduate, was recognized for his longtime service in Tennessee’s legislative arena as he helped lead scope of practice expansion battles.
Dr. Jon Reid, 2012 graduate, received SCO’s Young Alumni Award in recognition of his multi-partner practice success in Illinois.
