Essilor and Essilor Vision Foundation Partner to Donate Over 100K Pieces of Personal Protective Equipment

Essilor and Essilor Vision Foundation donations went to hospitals and first responders, optometry schools, and Vision Source, with safety kits being sent to employees

As part of their ongoing efforts to support optical and local communities and focus on safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, Essilor, the world’s leading ophthalmic lens manufacturer, and Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) have partnered to donate over 100,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) to hospitals and first responders; optometry institutions; and Vision Source practices. As local governments ease shelter-in-place orders, Essilor has made PPE safety kits available for any employee who needs one.

“We know that one of the most stressful parts of reopening is having access to enough PPE to keep our employees, their families, our customers and their patients safe,” says Rick Gadd, president of Essilor, North America. “It’s core to our mission to ensure our communities have access to equipment to help them stay well and operate safely.”

Donations made by Essilor and EVF included PPE items that have been in short supply, including surgical and N95 masks as well as protective glasses, all packed with love and care by their employee volunteers.

“Essilor Vision Foundation is honored to take part in this initiative to help protect our first responders, doctors and employees,” said Becky Palm, president of Essilor Vision Foundation. “Through strong partnership with Essilor, we know we have made an impact in the communities we serve.”

In addition to donating more than 44,000 pieces of PPE to hospitals and first responders, Essilor focused on supporting the optical community, including optometry schools and Vision Source. Nineteen optometry institutions throughout the United States received more than 14,000 pieces of PPE and 50,000 pieces of PPE were donated to Vision Source. Vision Source leaders encouraged their practices to pass masks along to others in need if they already have sufficient PPE.

Recipients of PPE responded with immense gratitude. Dr. John Flanagan, dean and professor at the School of Optometry and Vision Science Program, University of California, Berkeley, states, “I want to personally thank Essilor and EVF for their  PPE donations to Berkeley Optometry. These thoughtful gifts have enabled us to continue to treat patients and have a significantly greater impact in our community.”

The “Employee Safety Kits” Essilor is preparing will ensure their employees have access to PPE as shelter-in-place orders are removed and employees gradually resume activity. Essilor encourages employees to wear masks for both their safety and the safety of others.

As the United States works to recover from the crisis and transition into a new normal, Essilor will continue to lead through its commitment to help keep first responders, employees and optical communities healthy and safe. Safe access to eye care is central to the Essilor mission of improving lives by improving sight.

frame brands coupled with Essilor’s most advanced lens technologies

As independent practices look for ways to accelerate recovery, Essilor, the world’s leading ophthalmic lens manufacturer, announces that it will partner with Luxottica on its Next GEN Offer to ECPs by adding a valuable frame component*. The Essilor Next GEN Offer will continue to feature the popular buy one, get one offer on premium Essilor lenses. Partnering with Luxottica, customers will receive a $50 rebate when they combine those Essilor lenses with a pair of branded frames from Luxottica’s portfolio, including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Costa, Arnette and Vogue Eyewear. This limited time offer for independent eye care practices will be available from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

“We know the Essilor Next GEN Offer is proven to drive patient demand for premium lenses while increasing practice revenue. Our newly enhanced offer will drive patient traffic through a robust patient marketing campaign and contribute to a swift recovery for independent eyecare practices,” said Sherianne James, Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Customer Engagement at Essilor of America.

In a recent announcement to more than 9,000 participating practices, the company extended its Essilor Next GEN Offer through Dec, 31, 2020, in an effort to support a robust recovery and support plan for their independent eyecare customers. The limited-time $50 frame rebate will be available July 1 through Sept. 30, 2020, to patients who select qualifying premium Essilor lenses and choose two frames from select Luxottica brands. Among participating Luxottica brands are some of the most sought-after frames in the world, including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Costa and many more.

“For the past few months, Luxottica has been focused on supporting ECPs in their recovery, whether it be providing early access to masks and sanitation products, more flexible commercial terms, or virtual classes to stay updated and prepare for reopening,” said Alessandro Mariani, VP of Marketing for Luxottica Wholesale N.A. “This initiative furthers our efforts on behalf of ECPs by providing an incentive for patients to return to their practices and an added value for them when upgrading their style to premium brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley and more.”

The Essilor Next GEN Offer has helped practices increase patient traffic through national media and a practice locator; demonstrated to patients the benefits of advanced lens technologies, which leads to increased wearer satisfaction; and increased practice revenue with premium lens purchases.
