On May 23, the illuminated stage of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Center City, Philadelphia was set with signature regalia for Salus University’s 118th Commencement.
Faculty, staff, family and friends gathered and watched proudly as their beloved hardworking students were presented with their professional degrees in: Optometry; Audiology; Biomedicine; Public Health; Occupational Therapy; Low Vision Rehabilitation; Vision Rehabilitation Teaching; Orientation and Mobility; Blindness and Visual Impairment; and Speech-Language Pathology.
This year’s commencement was extra special as it commemorated the Centennial Anniversary of the Pennsylvania State College of Optometry – now the Pennsylvania College of Optometry – Salus University’s founding college.
While Salus president, Michael H. Mittelman, OD ’80, MPH, MBA, FAAO, FACHE, kicked off the event with his welcome address, he was soon followed by Susan K. Barnes, OD ’19, the top graduate from PCO’s Optometry Traditional Program; and keynote speaker, Louis J. Catania, OD ’69, FAAO, DSc.
Commencement was the culmination of a week of festivities, which included a ceremony celebrating the graduates who successfully completed PCO’s Advanced Studies program and a Graduate Luncheon where students across all programs were recognized for their academic and clinical accomplishments.
