Julie Rodman, OD, MS, FAAO, associate professor of optometry, was appointed Primary Care Chief for Broward at the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry’s clinical branch, The Eye Care Institute.
Rodman graduated from Brandeis University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and received her optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 1998. She then went on to complete a residency in hospital-based optometry at the VAMC Brockton/West Roxbury, MA. Since completing her residency, Rodman has worked in various settings, including an ophthalmology private practice and an HMO-based practice.
Rodman joined the NSU College of Optometry as a part-time faculty member in May 2000. In February 2008, she transitioned to full-time as an assistant professor and now holds the rank of associate professor. Dr. Rodman has taught in the Optometry Theory and Methods Laboratory and now serves as the Chief of Broward at The Eye Care Institute in downtown Fort Lauderdale. She has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Clinical Precepting and Preceptor of the Year. In 2014, Rodman received her Masters of Science in Clinical Vision Research.
Rodman has served as Residency Education Coordinator where she was responsible for arranging the didactic assignments for the Resident Conference Series as well as interdisciplinary presentations. She continues to be actively involved in the residency program as a residency supervisor where she mentors and guides the residents with Grand Rounds Presentations, posters, and publications. Rodman also serves on the Residency Advisory Committee and the ASCO Residency Affairs Committee.
Rodman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association, Optometric Retina Society and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. She has authored multiple posters on various ocular disease topics, serves as a poster reviewer for the multi-media session at SECO International and is a reviewer for multiple index medicus journals.
Rodman is a member of the Optovue Advisory Board where she serves as a lecturer and consultant. She holds her Oral Pharmaceuticals Certification and is Laser Certified as well. Her scholarly interests include retinal disease, optical coherence tomography, optical coherence tomography angiography and diseases of the vitreo-retinal interface. She was the principal investigator on a multi-center, nationwide investigation into the prevalence of Vitreomacular Adhesion in patients 40 years of age and older.
