Advancing Customization in Contact Lens Care: EyePrint Prosthetics at the
GPLI Resident Symposium
Specialty contact lenses continue to play an essential role in addressing complex visual needs, and customization is at the forefront of this progress. Early this fall, in Columbus, Ohio, Wave Eye Care participated in the GPLI Resident Symposium, where more than 65 cornea and contact lens residents and practicing optometrists gathered to expand their knowledge of advanced lens technologies.
The sessions highlighted EyePrint Prosthetics, a collection of impression-based scleral lenses that represent the most customizable design available today. Attendees witnessed the ease and advantages of impression technology for managing highly irregular eyes. Workshops also featured topography-based freeform scleral, corneal, and orthokeratology lenses created with the WAVE Contact Lens System®, as well as fitting sets from Advanced Vision Technologies (AVT). Each offering demonstrated how detailed design and expert consultation can improve patient outcomes across a wide range of clinical situations.
One of the most impactful moments of the program was the fitting of a patient with advanced refractive needs due to aphakia and a history of glaucoma. The patient, seen at The Havener Eye Institute, required the placement of a tube shunt for intraocular pressure regulation. This case illustrated the importance of careful scleral lens fitting in patients with delicate ocular structures. Ensuring the tube shunt remained protected while still delivering optimal visual correction was crucial and successful using an EyePrintPRO scleral lens. The symposium allowed students and doctors to see firsthand how advanced technologies can be integrated into clinical practice for remarkable patient outcomes.
Wave Eye Care unites EyePrint Prosthetics, the WAVE Contact Lens System®, and AVT, bringing together more than five decades of innovation and expertise. By offering impression-based methods, topography-driven design, and empirical lens options, Wave Eye Care continues to provide the total package for practitioners and patients alike. The company remains dedicated to education and collaboration with the next generation of eye care providers.
