ASCO’s 10th Spring Institute for Faculty Development: A Milestone in Academic Advancement
This April, the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) held its 10th Spring Institute for Faculty Development (SIFD) in Rochester, New York. It was a three-day immersive experience dedicated to equipping early (two-year) to mid-career (ten-year) faculty with the tools and strategies needed to thrive in optometric academia.
The program featured dynamic educational presentations, interactive small mentor group sessions, and a compelling keynote address by Dr. Sandra Block, Professor Emeritus at the Illinois College of Optometry and President of the World Council of Optometry. The agenda was packed with actionable insights designed to foster professional growth and academic excellence.
Thirty-seven outstanding faculty members from 14 institutions participated in the program along with seven mentors and two chairs. SIFD is designed to strengthen teaching effectiveness, build a deeper understanding of the promotion and tenure process, and cultivate a collaborative network of peers across institutions.
ASCO extends its sincere appreciation to our corporate sponsors Alcon, CooperVision, and Essilor Luxottica for their continued support. ASCO is especially grateful to Jerry Warner, President of CooperVision, and his team in Victor, NY, for graciously hosting this year’s event.
The next Spring Institute for Faculty Development is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2027. For more information about the program, please visit: https://bit.ly/3YIirNI
