Dr. Greg Fecho Named 2019-2020 NSUCO Professor of the Year

Dr. Greg Fecho, OD, associate professor, has been named the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry Professor of the Year for 2019-2020 and has been nominated for the President’s Distinguished Professor Award of Excellence for 2020.

Through the development and integration of relevant technology in didactic instruction, such as the use of self-published digital books (iBooks), videos, podcasts, and simulations, Dr. Fecho has added a level of innovation to courses that has led instruction of similar courses in other programs across the country. Dr. Fecho has integrated his expertise regarding the impact of technology in teaching and test administration on student performance in his research and publications. He provides support and resources to faculty regarding innovative technology at all levels of didactic and clinical education.

Dr. Fecho has gained the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and students. His multifaceted teaching styles promote critical thinking skills based on knowledge, comprehension, and application of information delivered during didactic lectures, laboratory experiences, and patient care. His demonstration of the highest qualities of personal and professional leadership and academic excellence are qualities that endear Dr. Fecho to his students and colleagues.

Dr. Fecho graduated from NSUCO in 2001. Following graduation, he completed a one-year residency program at NSUCO in Primary Care with emphasis in pediatrics and binocular vision. Dr. Fecho is currently course instructor of the Anomalies of Binocular Vision 1 Course and laboratories emphasizing accommodative, ocular motor, and heterophoric conditions, Optometric Theory and Methods 1 course with laboratories, and the Optometry Simulation Laboratory which utilizes augmented reality medical simulators to teach students crucial procedures needed for their profession.

Dr. Fecho also teaches students and residents in the primary care, pediatrics/binocular vision, and vision therapy clinics. His current research interests include the use and effectiveness of technology in Optometric education as well as research interests in accommodation, binocular vision, and vision therapy.
