AZCOPT Named a Recipient of the Healthy Eyes Healthy Children Community Grant

Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT) is one of the recipients of the Healthy Eyes Healthy Children (HEHC) Community Grant. This $5,000 grant, sponsored by Optometry Cares – The AOA Foundation and Essilor Vision Foundation, is awarded to programs focusing on improving community access to vision services, particularly underserved children in the United States.

With this grant, AZCOPT has partnered with The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, a local clinic that provides complete medical care to uninsured people in the Phoenix area. Once or twice each month, several AZCOPT faculty and students will set up evening clinics at TNCC to provide free comprehensive eye examinations to the pediatric patients at this clinic. Each child will receive one pair of glasses at no cost through the Essilor Vision Foundation’s Changing Life Through Lenses program. With the HEHC grant, it is expected that approximately 300 pediatric patients between six months and 18 years of age will gain access to comprehensive eye care.
