Arizona College of Optometry Adapting to COVID-19 Challenges

The Arizona College of Optometry at Midwestern University is making adjustments to its instructional and clinical procedures, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

With the approval of the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education, distance and online learning has taken the place of most didactic instruction. Additionally, AZCOPT faculty and advanced students are continuing to serve current patients at the Midwestern University Eye Institute for urgent and emergent cases in person and via WebEx telehealth services. AZCOPT’s Class of 2020 celebrated commencement in late May with a virtual graduation celebration.

AZCOPT’s students who require additional support will also be eligible for aid from the University. Recently passed Federal legislation, the CARES Act, will provide approximately $2.25 million in relief funds to Midwestern University, and University administration has elected to apportion 100% of those funds to its students in the form of need-based grants.

AZCOPT would like to recognize and honor the dedication and efforts of healthcare educators, professionals, and students during this challenging time.
