One of the mainstays of the OGCA is to assist our members with issues arising from contract documents and buyers of construction issuing onerous, one-sided and otherwise, dictatorial language. Luckily, the OGCA has had a great deal of success in reversing otherwise problematic conditions in tenders prior to the award of a contract. In this article, I wanted to communicate to our members just one such issue that has recent arisen, and that is not only problematic from a construction standpoint, but would actually single-handedly counteract countless decades of progress in construction.

 

Employment numbers dropped for the third month in a row since August, and labour force participation also decreased for the past two months.

 

The unemployment rate, however, remains low.

On Monday, Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy released the 2022 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review. The plan, titled "Ontario's Plan to Build: A Progress Update," forecasts sort term uncertainty, a more bullish deficit – with a path to balance by 2025 - and includes several new tax measures targeting small businesses.

 

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) report has been provided to the OGCA.

The Construction and Design Alliance of Ontario (CDAO) have successfully hosted another Procurement Day. This event was virtual and was meant to provide industry perspective to the buyers of construction.
