With the summer winding down, most people’s thoughts now turn to “Back to School.” This time usually symbolizes new beginnings and directions for youth, and one of the most prominent choices that they can make at this time is to select the Specialized Trades Exploration Program (STEP) to ICI Construction Program.
This year's event is being held at the beautiful Queens Landing in picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake on September 14-16.

Don’t let water damage sideline your construction project
Northbridge Insurance®
Severe water damage can cause several challenges for construction companies. Related project delays can translate into increased costs in labour and materials and can also drive up financing costs from lenders to finish the project, heavily impacting developers’ bottom lines. The reality is that water damage during the construction stage of a building is one of the largest risks to completing a project on time and on budget.

Summer 2022 is quickly coming to an end. Mornings are cooler, the sun rises a little later, traffic is visibly heavier, and kids go back to school next week. Speaking for myself, the first ‘real summer’ post-COVID was awesome!

LOC staff have also had an extremely busy summer. We’ve taken every opportunity to spend time with our Champions. Thank you to every one of our members who have invited us on site for tours and safety celebrations.

The LOC will be joining our Champions at Alberici at the end of September for an Inclusive Supplier Event.

On behalf of NextStar Energy, Alberici-Barton Malow JV invites to you learn about our construction bid opportunities at the new NextStar Energy Battery Plant. Join us for an afternoon of networking and learning how to get involved.

For 2021 and 2022, the government legislated artificially low increases on the Maximum Insurable Earnings (MEI). Now that employment levels have recovered from layoffs in COVID-19-impacted industries, there is a sizable gap between the current ceiling and the projected 2023 rate.

Connecting the various parts of a construction project is a complex but essential part of operating as a contractor today.
With subcontractors, architects, clients and numerous internal teams all contributing to a project at various phase of the project and information accumulating over the course of the job, the resulting communications may be too numerous and diverse to be easily tracked through outdated legacy technology.

Legislative & Legal Updates
The mayors of Toronto and Ottawa will be granted sweeping new powers, which will give them sole responsibility for preparing the municipal budget for council approval, the ability to hire and fire department heads as they see fit and veto some decisions made by councillors.

The latest issue of the Ontario Legislative Reports is now available on the OGCA website. Please click here to access the latest issue.

The Ontario Legislative Report is updated every two weeks and explains the intention and status of legislation and regulations that could impact the construction industry. For issues prior to January 2021, please contact Daniela Polsoni at OGCA.
