Clive Thurston recently attended the 23rd Convention of the Corporation des Entrepreneurs Generaux du Quebec at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau. Clive was the guest of Eric Cote, CEO of the CEGQ.

At the gala dinner, Eric and the CEGQ surprised Clive with a gift and a heartfelt thank you for his work in the industry.

 

 

 

Erich Schmidt is a specialist in government relations, stakeholder engagement and strategic communications. Erich has worked in all three levels of government, has served in the Ministry of Labour, and has worked on ten political campaigns, and counting.

He has a strong track record of success in providing strategic communications and public affairs advice to political, business, public service, media, and community leaders. 

He brings to the OGCA a strong knowledge of government processes and industry experience from other ICI construction associations. With his skills and experience, he is well equipped to engage with OGCA members, stakeholders and government.

Erich holds a Certificate in Strategic Public Relations and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Law and Policy from the University of Toronto. He is currently working on his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Modern Niagara and Chandos are Safety Leaders and “Leaders Need to Lead”. The League of Champions inspires other leaders to be  health and safety champions. Together, we will make a difference in the Ontario construction industry.

Over 190 people attended the LOC and OGCA’s “Opportunities for Safety: An Introduction to the New Ontario Safety Programs” event on February 12, 2020 at Verdi Convention Centre. OGCA and LOC members, association members, speakers and experts in construction and safety were invited.

Craig Lesurf opened the program and in honour of Mississauga's Mayor Hazel McCallion, showed a League of Champions  jersey he asked everyone to sign. Dan Fleming presented the Roadmap to Accreditation. David Frame talked about the OGCA Leadership Day and introduced the event sponsors; IHSA, NORCAT and 4S.

     

Speakers were Diana Rea from WSIB, Paul Casey from IHSA, and Bill Roy from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.

Diana Rea presented the Health and Safety Excellence (HSE) Program. Paul Casey discussed CORTM2020 and Bill Roy presented the Supporting Ontario's Safe Employers (SOSE) Program.

Paul Casey - IHSA, Rod Cook - WSIB, and Bill Roy - MOL, sat on the panel chaired by Craig Lesurf.

Legislative & Legal Updates

The government has introduced Bill 171 that if passed, will give Metrolinx unique powers to expedite the planning and approvals for Toronto transit.

The Bill only applies to the four lines proposed in metro Toronto, including the priority Ontario Line. The proposal gives Metrolinx planning control of the transit corridor and includes limits to environmental studies, and power to determine relocation of utilities.

The Bill is now in second reading.
