Inspirational Substance Abuse Resources

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Now that things are starting to open up in Ontario, I wanted to remind everyone in the construction industry of some of the best free resources available to help workers and employers with Substance Abuse on the jobsite. Because of COVID-19, most 12 Step Fellowships were online and doing limited outreach due to restrictions. That will be changing in the next month or so as restrictions lift.

For those interested, I would suggest contacting any of the three fellowships I have linked to in this article and ask them to arrange to send a speaker to their jobsite or workplace.

Though you won’t have a choice of who attends, you can ask if they could send someone who has completed the 12 Steps and has some speaking experience. The speaker would also be able to bring literature upon request.

The speaker is not a professional. They are a member who has found Recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction and shares their personal experience, strength and hope with others for several reasons:

  1. It will help their recovery.
  2. To inspire others that it is possible to trecover.
  3. Because such work is a vital part of Step #12.

Having a union rep there would complement the speaker well. The union rep could follow with the resources that are available to workers who want help. With attendance taken, this could provide evidence of some Substance Abuse training for use with various regulatory authorities. It would be an excellent, inexpensive way to engage workers and inspire those who may need help with Substance Abuse.

The following are links to the three main fellowships: Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous:
