Steps for Life Committee Volunteer Opportunities

The staff at the LOC are very excited to see that the Threads of Life team is planning for an in-person Steps for Life walk in 2022. We have already committed to walking with three LOC member teams, and yes, if you register a team, LOC staff will also walk with you!

Steps for life – walking for families of workplace tragedy is the primary fundraising event for Threads of Life – a national charity dedicated to supporting families along their journey of healing after they have experienced a workplace fatality, life-altering injury or illness.

Steps for Life walks take place in communities all across Canada – raising funds in support of programs and services and raising awareness of Threads of Life and the importance of workplace injury prevention, and are planned and organized by volunteers. We are seeking volunteers to help plan Steps for Life in various communities in Ontario and across Canada.

Committee volunteers work to secure sponsors, promote the event in the community, handle logistics, recruit day of event volunteers and more.

The planning cycle typically begins in the fall and continues until the walk is held in early May. Volunteers contribute approximately five hours per month – attending the monthly meeting/conference call and following up on action items. The time requirement typically increases in the weeks before the walk.

Steps for Life committee positions provide opportunities to network with health and safety professionals, enhance existing skills and learn new ones, and contribute to the success of a well-known event that is making a significant difference in the lives of families who have experienced a workplace tragedy.
