Leadership Day - An Overwhelming Success!

Over 220 attendees came together to listen to some of the most prominent industry leaders in government along with industry CEOs. The morning kicked off with a leadership panel. Each participant shared their experiences and challenges in achieving or on their way to achieving COR™. Moderator Craig Lesurf from Walsh Canada lead the panelists who were: Frank Perricone, OGCA Chairman, CEO, President and Maren Gamble, Health & Safety Manager at Percon Construction Inc.; Steve Benson, President and Mike Barron, Health & Safety Manager at Benson Steel Limited; and Ben Ruggieri, General Manager and Jerry Muzzerall, Health & Safety Manager at TACC.

Paul Casey provided a COR™ Report Card, summarizing COR™ and its performances and mandates. Jayne Holmes, Director of Capital Works at the City of Brampton made an official announcement that Brampton City Council has unanimously adopted the Certificate of Recognition (COR™) program as part of the City’s construction contract management and construction tendering process. They have also made their own commitment in achieving COR™ as well.

The Honorable Minister Kevin Flynn praised OGCA’s & MySafeWork’s efforts in promoting and changing the safety culture in the construction industry of Ontario. He also touched on the Construction Action Plan. Chief Prevention Officer George Gritziotis spoke to accreditation, and WSIB President Tom Teahen spoke to some of the many initiatives that the WSIB is working towards that will assist in improving the construction industry.

Jason Ball from Ball Construction and Rob Ellis from MySafeWork inducted 14 new members and patrons into the League of Champions. Congratulations to Ampere Limited | Mario Bernardini; CISC - Charlie Jenks; CLAC - Andrew Regnerus; George Brown College - Clint Kissoon; IHSA - Enzo Garritano; M&G Steel Limited - Brian Thompson; Meti Telecommunications Installations Inc. - Tom Murphy; Northern Structures - John Ciampa; Ontario Electrical League (OEL) - Stephen Sell; Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance (ORCGA) - Jennifer Parent; Rutherford Contracting - David Petrie; Stuart Olson - Paul Quinless; Triple Crown Enterprises Ltd. - James MacLeod.

With this conference growing in popularity, OGCA has announced that Leadership Day will be moving to a larger location for 2018.
