Between The Pipes
NYRWA News

Have you received water and/or wastewater technical assistance from NYRWA?  Have you attended NYRWA in-person or web-based training?  Has your system benefited from a Source Water Protection Plan or an Energy Efficiency Assessment from NYRWA? Have you benefited from the Apprenticeship Program? If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions, WE NEED YOUR HELP! NYRWA is respectfully asking our system members to draft and submit letters of support for the services you have received.  These letters are crucial so we can deliver your message to our elected representatives that more needs to be done to fund water and wastewater infrastructure. Please, we need as many members as possible to draft the support letters on your letterhead and mail (only) to our office at:

NYRWA
PO Box 487
Claverack, NY 12513

Let’s make this letter writing campaign a huge success, please participate. We thank you in advance for your consideration.

If you have not received an agenda with the pre-registration form for the Web-Based Workshop, May 18 & 19, 2021 you can download it here: https://nyruralwater.org/conference.

Please note: since the mailing of the agenda all course topics have been approved by NYS DOH and NYS DEC. Each 1 hour course is approved for 1 contact hour for water and wastewater.

As you may have read in our previous e-Newsletter, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person conference due to COVID-19. In an effort to bring our members together and to provide the valuable training needed by our industry professionals, NYRWA has decided to hold a 2-day web-based workshop.

We will be offering (8) one-hour dual certified (water and wastewater) webinar style training sessions coupled with our Annual Business Meeting and a few cash drawings. Our thanks to our Associate Members who have stepped up to provide this training, showing their commitment to this association yet again!

The registration process will be more entailed this year. This will be a multi-step process. First, you must pre-register by completing the NYRWA pre-registration form in its entirety (including the billing information as it is needed to process your registration), and return with payment or your registration will not be accepted. Each registrant must have their own (unique) email address to be able to participate and receive contact hours. After NYRWA processes your registration, we will mail a confirmation letter that will include further details on how to register for each session through GoToWebinar. It is very important that you register through GoToWebinar using the same email address you provide on the NYRWA pre-registration form. You must register individually for each session you plan to attend.

Each registrant must have their own device and their own unique email address to receive credit for each webinar attended (this is how your attendance is tracked and recorded for credit). The agenda with registration form can be downloaded here. We hope you all will be willing to take this leap with us, until we can meet again in 2022.

NYRWA is proud to welcome Stuart Thomas to our staff as an Apprenticeship Trainer. We are very grateful to all who have engaged in this new program to assist with succession planning of our retiring water & wastewater professionals. The demand for apprentices has exceeded our expectations, and now it is time to add another trainer position. Stuart will be providing apprentice training in western and central New York. He brings many years of experience and expertise, and has served as an engineer in both the regulatory and operations sections. We believe his education, experience and expertise will provide our apprentices with an exceptional learning experience. If you wish to contact Stuart, please email thomas@nyruralwater.org or call (518) 828-3155 ext. 110.

Upcoming Training

We have received several phone calls and emails regarding Grade A Compliant Laboratory classes in recent weeks. Starting in the last week of February, we are planning no less than 18 lab classes across the state over the course of 2021. These sessions will be in-person, and will meet the mandates for social distancing and masks where applicable. Additional classes will be added, if necessary, to meet the needs of our members. Please check our website often at: https://www.nyruralwater.org/training/classroom-training for our renewal course offerings.
