Between The Pipes
NYRWA News
As many of you know, each year the NYRWA distributes one-time grants to five students across New York State valued at $500.00 to help defray the cost of tuition, books, or room and board at an accredited institution of higher learning approved by the NYRWA.

This is a member benefit and we appreciate your assistance in ensuring students from your area have this opportunity to apply. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must complete the application form in its entirety and return it to the NYRWA by the entry postmark deadline, February 6, 2019. All pertinent information on applying are within the official rules, including the requirement to include an essay and student transcripts to be eligible.

The application can be found here: http://nyruralwater.org/downloads/downloads-index, the link is on the right hand side. Please be sure to share this application with anyone that will be attending college in the fall of 2019.
The NYRWA is pleased to announce our partnership with JumpStart Testing (JST), who provide web-based exam prep testing for both water and wastewater.

We have long understood the issues regarding the ABC Wastewater Exam failure rate and the anxiety that causes both the system and the operations specialist who is seeking certification. For both water and wastewater systems, a great deal of time and expense is allocated for training new personnel.
JumpStart Testing provides preparatory exams that the "trainee" can log on web-based and take the practice tests at their own leisure, over a one year period. The cost is $75 per subscription, which allows for unlimited use for 1 year, and the link is available on our website www.nyruralwater.org under our training tab.

We are excited about this member benefit since it is affordable, gives unlimited access for 1 year, and it not only scores your practice exams but also gives the correct answer, an explanation and reference materials for any incorrect answers.

NYRWA hopes our members will find value in this resource, and that this tool will help alleviate some of the exam anxiety for both our member systems and their operations specialists.
We are also pleased that our partnership with Diamond Maps is growing. Does your water or wastewater system need maps? Diamond Maps is an excellent web-based mapping tool which allows your system personnel to create their own maps, collect and plot their own points such as valves, manholes, hydrants, main lines, etc., and most importantly, update their own maps with items such as water leak repairs and new service connections. Diamond Maps now offers a work order program with the mapping tool. This allows your personnel to track items such as pump/motor maintenance, required sampling and locations, and any other item your system may wish to track.
