One of the biggest issues encountered during this stay-at-home order for wastewater systems has been the use of materials other than toilet paper. NYRWA is encouraging all wastewater operators and/or superintendents to request that their local elected officials release a statement prohibiting the use of such materials. NYRWA has received numerous calls and has been provided photos of materials such as disposable wipes, paper towels and shop towels clogging sewer lines. This could pose a significant threat to public health. Please reach out to your local elected officials for action today.
