NYRWA Accepting Applications for our Apprenticeship Program

The New York Rural Water Association (NYRWA) is accepting applications for the upcoming Water & Wastewater Registered Apprenticeship Program starting this Fall. All in-person classes will be conducted at W2 Operator Training Group Facility in Cortland, NY.

  • Cost: Tuition is free. Participants need to purchase books & materials.
  • Training: 288 hours of formal classroom instruction (in-person and online) over 2 years.
  • Plant Tours: Includes visits to different Water/Wastewater Plants.
  • Certification Preparation: Tailored training to prepare apprentices for their certification exams.

    Apprentice Eligibility
  • Must be currently employed by a Water/Wastewater utility.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to attend monthly Related Training Instruction (RTI) classes in Cortland.

    Employer Responsibilities
  • Provide a one-on-one mentor who is currently employed as a Water/Wastewater Operator to supervise and sign-off on On-the-Job Training (OJT) hours.
  • Ensure a safe working environment.
  • Pay wages as specified in the New York Department of Labor (NYDOL) agreement.
  • Comply with NYDOL terms and conditions.


DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS DECEMBER 1, 2025

This program is an excellent opportunity for current and aspiring Water/Wastewater utility employees to enhance their skills and advance their careers.
