Message from the Board

In these unprecedented times, it is easy to feel isolated and disconnected. Virtual events have become the norm. We miss the face-to-face interaction we were used to and perhaps took for granted. My years of NYSAE membership have been both good for my career and have served as a medicinal elixir for my spirit.

Founded in 1966, the IIB is the only national association devoted exclusively to representing and advancing the interests of internationally headquartered financial institutions operating in the United States. Its membership is comprised of internationally-headquartered institutions from approximately 35 countries around the world. Collectively, the U.S. operations of the IIB's member banks are an important source of credit for U.S. borrowers and enhance the depth and liquidity of U.S. financial markets. IIB member banks also inject billions of dollars each year into state and local economies across the country through the direct employment of U.S. citizens and permanent residents, as well as through other operating and capital expenditures.

Ask the Expert
Q: We’re a small trade association and we don’t have staff handling our marketing and communications, nor do we have the revenue to afford an outside agency. Meanwhile, we have board members who think we need to be on every social media platform — go where the members are — and that it’s easy enough for an intern to manage. What I’m having difficulty conveying is how time consuming and labor intensive it is; our images need to be professionally developed, especially the ones supporting our education, and the message needs to be engaging and actionable. Clearly, I think that for social, less is more. Who is right here?

The Winter Fancy Food Show has NEW show dates, February 6 to 8, 2022, and a NEW show location, Las Vegas. Join SFA at the Las Vegas Convention Center for three remarkable days as their industry comes together in-person for the first time in two years. Tens of thousands of specialty food and beverage products will be available for discovery. Hundreds of brands and countless flavors will be showcased at a premier, one-of-a-kind, trade show destination. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID test will be required from all attendees, exhibitors, show staff and vendors.

February is American Heart Month, a time to pay special attention to understanding, preventing and treating heart disease, the leading cause of death in the nation. Over 874,000 Americans died of cardiovascular disease in 2019, according to the American Heart Association's Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics – 2022 Update. This month, the 58th American Heart Month, the AHA is urging people all over the country to "reclaim your rhythm." What does that mean? Quite simply, the AHA is encouraging people to reclaim control of their mental and physical well-being after two difficult years of the COVID-19 pandemic. For American Heart Month, the AHA and other organizations reinforce the importance of heart health, the need for more research and efforts to ensure that millions of people live longer and healthier.

We can all agree that COVID has changed the way we work, and this dramatic disruption has created significant anxiety within the association community. There are a lot of barriers to employment out there that are still impacting people. People are evaluating how they spend their time more than they ever did before.
