Message from the Chair
Here we are in a brand-new year! With 2020 behind us, we look forward to 2021 with great expectation and hope for a healthier and more equitable future for our world. Although as we continue to follow the news, we are off to a rocky start this January, we must all stay focused on what is important to us as individuals and collectively as a greater community.
Event Spotlight
Ten months ago, associations were pivoting to find the best virtual event management platform to fit their needs. Entering 2021 organizations are finding that they will once again be going virtual, or that they will be conducting a hybrid event. The larger question is: how can you find the company that’s the right fit for your organization? Enter NYSAE. Over the summer we held two technology showcases, and we’re happy to announce they’re making their return starting with our program on February 19. We’re looking to bring together technology companies from all walks of life to produce a 10 – 15-minute demo for attendees, showcasing all of the ins and outs of their product. If your organization is looking for that perfect fit, then this program is for you. Are you a technology solutions company and you’re looking to get your product in front of the NYSAE audience? Please email Holly Koenig to find out how to take part in this Technology Showcase, or a future program.

ASAE Corner
Regulators have not clarified lobbying-related definitions for 501(c)(6) eligibility. On December 22, 2020, ASAE delivered a letter to regulators to help determine exactly what terms mean and how the Small Business Administration and the Department of the Treasury plan to implement 501(c)(6) eligibility criteria. It is unclear as to whether applicants should use the IRS Form 990 or the Lobbying Disclosure Act to determine lobbying activities.
