New and existing home sales were up 15.9 percent in July in the Northeast region of the United States, making it the second highest region just after the Midwest, according to the most recent REAL Trends Housing Market Report. The average home price increased 3.1 percent in the Northeast in July.

HomeGain recently surveyed more than 400 homeowners and found that home sellers are more than twice as likely to sell their homes using a REALTOR than selling it on their own. The survey revealed that 66 percent of homeowners that used a REALTOR were successful in selling their home versus the 30 percent of successful FSBOs.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The latest poll from the Quinnipiac Polling Institute showed that New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn had nearly three times the support of her rivals in the 2013 mayor’s race. The poll also revealed that New York City voters support a law that would require businesses in the city to provide employees with up to nine paid sick days per year.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the launch of an online voter registration system that will allow New Yorkers, starting immediately, to register to vote and update their voter registration information online through the State Department of Motor Vehicles website.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed two bills repealing the statutory authorization for 28 local public authorities and 95 urban renewal and industrial development agencies that are either inactive or are no longer needed.

The New York State Association of REALTORS will hold its annual Fall Business Meetings from September 30 to October 3 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY. NYSAR encourages all members to participate as many of the sessions do not require official committee service.
