The New York State Association of REALTORS has joined a coalition of 11 business, local government and education organizations to launch "Let New York Work: A Common Agenda for the Common Good". The American homeownership rate rose slightly to 66.3 during the third quarter of 2011, up from 65.9 percent in the second quarter, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. In the Northeast, the homeownership rate was 63.7 percent. Click here to learn more.

Recently, the "National Real Estate Transfer Tax" chain email has resurfaced making false claims that the Obama administration's health care bill contains a 4.0-percent "transfer tax" on all home sales. This time the subject line is "If you own a home, read this please," but it still falsely claims that all home sales will be subject to a 3.8 "sales tax." The truth is that the health care bill included a provision that imposes a new 3.8-percent Medicare tax in 2013 for some high-income households that have a "net investment income." The tax will likely only affect a very small percent of New Yorkers went it goes into effect. Click here to learn more.
