The New York State Real Estate Education Foundation (NYSREEF) is currently accepting applications from REALTORS interested in scholarships to support their continuing professional education. Scholarships are available for many NYSAR and NAR designation and certification courses.

The scholarship application, eligibility requirements and instructions may be found at www.nysreef.org. Applications must be submitted by August 1, 2011. A total of $18,945 was awarded to 75 individual scholarship winners in 2010.

According to the latest poll by the Siena Research Institute (SRI), New York State consumer home buying plans increased 0.7 points to 3.9 percent in June. Overall, New York State consumer confidence decreased 2.7 points, while the nation's confidence decreased 2.8 points. At 64.9, New York's overall consumer confidence is 6.6 points below the nation's confidence level of 71.5.

HomeGain released the results of its second quarter 2011 nationwide home values survey and found that 50 percent of New York real estate agents believe that the value of homes in their market will decrease over the next six months.

The National Association of REALTORS is hosting three regional forums on workforce housing this year. The forums will take place in Boston, MA on July 28; Washington, DC on September 28; and Portland, OR on December 1. Each forum will focus on the workforce housing challenges in that region and highlight regional best practices in addressing those challenges. NAR's Employer-Assisted Housing (EAH) class (www.realtors.org/eahclass) will be offered the day after the forums in Boston and Portland. NAR is offering travel stipends of up to $300 to assist members and association staff to attend the forums. Pre-applications for HUD's Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program are due by July 22. This program is designed to assist the unemployed and underemployed for up to 24 months with as much as $50,000 in aid to maintain their mortgage payments.
