With more people celebrating, Americans will splurge on costumes, candy and pumpkins for a record $9.1 billion in Halloween spending this year, according to NRF’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights. Nearly every celebrant plans to purchase candy, while another seven in 10 will spend their budget on decorations and costumes for themselves, children or even their pets.

The NRF Foundation announced Tuesday that Tess Burns, a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design, is the top recipient of its 2017 Ray Greenly Scholarship. Burns, a student at her school’s main campus in Savannah, Ga., and the top finalist of five, was awarded the $25,000 scholarship at the NRF’s annual Shop.org conference, which was held earlier this week in Los Angeles.

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. announced plans to enter India through licensed stores. The company has signed a multi-year license agreement with the Aditya Birla Group, a leading Indian conglomerate with an extensive retail portfolio, as well as strong digital and omnichannel capabilities. The first stores are expected to open in Mumbai and Delhi in spring 2018.

Lowe’s Companies Inc. is launching two apps leveraging Apple’s new ARKit capabilities — Measured by Lowe’s and Envisioned by The Mine — to transform smartphones into powerful measurement and design aides. Measured, available for download at Apple’s App Store, is one of the first accessible, easy-to-use apps using augmented reality to measure an object or distance within the phone’s camera view. Envisioned by The Mine will be available in early October and allows users to view high fidelity digital images of furnishings at scale, in their own home or a commercial space, leveraging ARKit’s augmented reality capabilities.

 

Aptos Inc., a recognized market leader in retail technology solutions, announced that Shalom S.A., which owns Titan, one of the largest department store brands in Panama, has selected the Aptos Singular Commerce platform to support its growth plans. The deal marks Aptos’ entry into the Panamanian retail market and enhances its footprint in Latin America.
