NRMCA’s Concrete Promotion Committee has organized four education sessions for 2024 Concrete Works to address critical promotion issues. Sessions include:

October 12, 2 - 3 p.m. - Green Public Procurement: Current Policies and Progress: This session will provide an update on federal, state and local buy clean policies, NRMCA’s EPA grant, as well as GSA and FHWA benchmarking and grant activities. Speakers include Lionel Lemay and Brian Killingsworth of NRMCA and Chris Senseney, University of Colorado.

NRMCA has named Ms. Lorri Soule of Miles Sand & Gravel Company and Auburn Concrete as the recipients of its 8th Annual Safety Awards. Ms. Soule is the corporate safety manager for Miles Sand & Gravel Company in Washington State; Auburn Concrete is headquartered in Auburn, Maine. They were named 2024 award recipients for tireless work and commitment of safety leadership in the ready mixed concrete industry.

NRMCA has announced the winners of its 2024 NRMCA Excellence in Quality Awards. Winning Producer members have followed and exceeded quality management principles over a broad range of activities from commitment to quality, materials management, managing production facilities and product quality control while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. The winners below will be honored on October 11 during the awards ceremony at NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks in Denver.

The Summer 2024 newsletter of the National Concrete Consortium has the following items:

• Sustainable Pavements: CRCP Across Texas: The Summer 2024 NC² Moving Advancements into Practice (MAP) Brief from the NC² Resource Library delves into the successful deployment of CRCP throughout Texas, highlighting the design principles and construction practices used to build these pavements and the substantial benefits they offer in terms of durability and sustainability. CRCPs are renowned for their exceptional performance in handling heavy traffic loads and resisting severe weather conditions.

The Improving Concrete Quality course is an excellent option for concrete producers, ingredient material suppliers, testing labs and design professionals looking to understand the impacts of investments in concrete quality on their businesses. NRMCA Senior Vice President, Technical Services, Karthik Obla and instructor of the course points out that quantifiable concrete quality indicators are often not tracked in the industry, meaning that the returns on quality investments are not well understood. However, he provides a tangible example of how producing higher quality concrete can significantly save costs, explaining “if you reduce the variability of concrete, if you’re producing a more consistent product, then you don’t have to increase your overdesign. You can save on concrete material cost - you can save a lot of money.” Professionals enrolled in this course can expect to gain a greater understanding of many other ways in which improving concrete quality can increase profitability and the performance of their products.

NRMCA has announced the winners of the 2024 NRMCA Environmental Excellence Awards. Now in its 29th year, the program offers NRMCA Producer members national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound environmental management practices in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance requirements and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment.
