Ohio Audiences Learn of Transparency Reporting Requirements in LEED v4 and NRMCA's Concrete Design Center
NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Julie Buffenbarger recently spoke to decision makers in Cincinnati and Columbus on the recently implemented U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4 reporting requirements. The programs were hosted by the Ohio Concrete Association’s Southeast/Central and Southwest regional promoters, Lisa Weaver Moon and John Davidson, respectively.

Ready Mixed Concrete Production Statistics Updated Through September 2016
The preliminary estimate of ready mixed concrete produced in September 2016 is 32.3 million cubic yards, 2.5% lower than that in September 2015. The estimated production through September is 259 million cubic yards, 3.1% higher than that during the same period in 2015.
 
Ready mixed concrete production is estimated from cement shipments reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. Additional details, including quarterly production by state, is available for NRMCA members here.

Build with Strength Seminar Aimed at Specifiers Set for Tomorrow in Arkansas
The Build with Strength building promotion program, in partnership with the Arkansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association (ARMCA) will presented a 6-credit hour Concrete Value and Innovations Seminar to architects, engineers and contractors in Little Rock tomorrow (Thursday, December 1). NRMCA Vice President, Sustainability, Tien Peng along with Senior Director, Innovations, Michael Wymant will present the significant value of concrete in mid-rise construction. The seminar will explore:
• Emerging trends in housing and development;
• Innovations in concrete construction;
• Case studies that showcase building value generation;
• Economical design of concrete wall and floor systems; and
• How to utilize existing, free resources to design structures.

The group will also be encouraged to utilize NRMCA’s Concrete Design Center which is a resource to assist design professionals with cost estimating, structural support, energy analysis and life cycle assessments.

Federal Judge Suspends New Overtime Rule
Last week, Judge Amos L. Mazzant with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, issued an order granting a preliminary injunction to halt the implementation of the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) new overtime compensation regulations in their entirety, which were slated to take effect December 1, 2016.

Effective Tomorrow, New OSHA Injury/Illness Tracking Rule Takes Effect
In mid-May, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) finalized a rule to change the process and timeline for recordkeeping and reporting of annual injuries and illnesses at the workplace, as well as new standards for anti-retaliation by employers for employees reporting those injuries and illnesses.

Promotion
NRMCA Seeks Nominations for Promotion Awards
Nominations are now open for the NRMCA Promoter of the Year Award, Affiliate Promoter of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion. The deadline for submitting nominations is Thursday, December 15. These awards will be presented at NRMCA’s 2017 Annual Convention, March 4-6 in Las Vegas. Nominees for Promoter of the Year must be current employees of NRMCA Producer member companies; nominees for the Affiliate award must be employees of the affiliate and have worked in the industry for at least five years and nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award must be former employees of NRMCA member companies who are retired or deceased.

You can help industry promotion champions get deserved recognition by nominating them for these prestigious awards. The most recent award winners are Zach Rich, Silvi Concrete (Promoter of the Year); Andrew Marks, Puget Sound Concrete Specifications Council (Affiliate Promoter of the Year); and Mike Shydlowski (retired from BASF, Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013).
