The International Code Council’s (ICC) Performance Code Consensus Committee convened on September 24 - 25, focusing on the development of provisions for the reimagined ICC Performance Code. Attended by committee members and industry experts, the meeting was held at ICC headquarters in Washington, DC. NRMCA Senior Vice President, Codes and Standards, Shamim Rashid-Sumar (seen here, fourth from left) is a committee member of the ICC Performance Code Consensus Committee and serves as chairwoman of the subgroup on Embodied Carbon and vice chairwoman of the subgroup on Functional Recovery. As part of Build With Strength’s code advocacy initiatives, NRMCA advocates for performance-based approaches in meeting building design objectives, including reduction of embodied carbon as well as incorporating resilience measures above minimum code requirements. NRMCA's Ready Mixed Concrete Delivery Professional Driver of the Year Award, now in its 29th year and sponsored by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB), acknowledges the significant contribution of ready mixed concrete truck drivers to the growth and success of individual companies and the ready mixed concrete industry. As a salute to these key members of the concrete production and delivery team, the award recognizes the driver’s career achievement, safety, professionalism, competence and customer service skills in a manner that will enhance the industry and public image of the career of Ready Mixed Concrete Delivery Professional. The award winner will be honored at NRMCA’s Annual Convention in Tucson, AZ, in March 2025. Applications must be e-mailed to DOY@nrmca.org by November 30. NRMCA's Annual Concrete Technology Training and Certification Program (Technical Short Course) was attended by 53 industry personnel in Columbia, MD, the week of September 9. Besides the NRMCA Engineering Division staff, guest speakers included Brett Harris with Saint Gobain discussing chemical admixtures and Ron Terrelonge speaking on quality control procedures. Results of the certification exams have been sent to the attendees. NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 2 Certification was earned by 28 individuals and 21 achieved the Level 3 Certification. Geno Luna with County Prestress & Precast and David Rath with Southwest Concrete Paving are congratulated for achieving the highest score of 97% on the Level 2 exam. Mr. Luna also achieved the highest score of 98% on the Level 3 exam. The support and sponsorship of NRMCA Super sponsors (Chryso/Saint Gobain, Euclid Chemical, Master Builders Solutions and Sika) is acknowledged. NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk attended yesterday (October 1) the WS Development and Sublime System’s ribbon cutting ceremony (seen here) for the first commercial application of its low-carbon Sublime Cement™. The concrete placement is located in the indoor public space of WS Development’s One Boston Wharf, Boston's largest net-zero-carbon office building, in the Seaport district. The building is a 707,000 square feet, 17-story, mixed-use structure designed by world-renowned Henning Larsen architects of Copenhagen, Denmark. In addition to 630,000 square feet of office space leased to Amazon, One Boston Wharf Road will feature ground floor retail and a new performing arts center.
