CONCRETEPAC’s Got Concrete? event is nearly sold out. Please join us at the Denver Milk Market on Saturday, October 12, to support the industry's premier Political Action Committee. Event highlights include:
This is CONCRETEPAC’s most anticipated event of the year. The event is scheduled to follow the National Mixer Driver Championship, allowing you and your team to unwind and celebrate after a competitive day on the course. As we approach the 2024 election, your support is crucial. Electing pro-industry, pro-business representatives is vital for advancing our interests in Congress. Your involvement enables NRMCA to advocate effectively on issues that impact the ready mixed concrete industry. Contact Heather Houck for information regarding prior authorization or registration for this event.

The concrete industry showcased its commitment to sustainability at the recent Net Zero Conference held in Anaheim, CA, where NRMCA’s Build With Strength (BWS) coalition sponsored, exhibited and presented the latest advancements in low carbon concrete. NRMCA’s Lionel Lemay, Brandon Wray and Patrick Matsche along with Association members Jim Little of National Ready Mixed Concrete Company and Karin Perissinotto of CalPortland (seen here, left to right, are Matsche, Little, Lemay, Wray and Perissinotto) participated in the annual convention which attracted climate leaders to re-envision the built environment while inspiring a net zero future. The event highlighted the crucial role that low carbon concrete plays in reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment. A recurring topic was the importance of collaboration between concrete producers, building designers and contractors as these partnerships foster innovative solutions that integrate low carbon materials effectively into architectural designs. Lemay and Wray participated in multiple panel discussions and presentations at the conference alongside contractor partners such as Webcor, Hathaway Dinwiddie and DPR Construction. These sessions facilitated knowledge exchange while enabling attendees to explore best practices in using low carbon concrete and optimizing its benefits in real-world applications. Matsche further convened with design partners in onsite meetings that provided the BWS team a chance to influence multiple project specifications by incorporating performance-based and sustainability driven changes that will open the door for efficient concrete mixes to be implemented. Overall, the convention reinforced the concrete industry's proactive approach to sustainability and the essential role of collaboration in driving forward low carbon initiatives, ultimately transforming the built environment for a greener future. On September 24, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk and Connecticut Concrete Promotion Council Executive Director Dominic Di Cenzo jointly served as master of ceremonies for the Build With Strength Concert Innovation Awards held at the recently completed New Canaan, CT, Library. Connecticut State Representative Tom O’Dea and New Canaan Library Board of Trustees Vice President Eileen Thomas attended and spoke at the event. The New Canaan Library was recognized for its sustainability, employing materials that are locally sourced, recycled and known for their energy efficiency and low-carbon footprint. The project achieved an energy use intensity which is 89% below the U.S. baseline. Integral to the project was the utilization of Pozzotive®, produced by Urban Mining Industries, a recycled, ground glass pozzolan produced locally with the active participation of NRMCA member O&G Industries along with E2 Engineers, Turner Construction and a committed owner team. The carbon footprint of the concrete was reduced by nearly 30%. Congratulations to all involved in this award winning project. Shown here, from left to right, are team members Dan Koenig (Turner), State Rep. Tom O’Dea, Mark Herter (Centerbrook Architects), Gillian Zinser (Turner), Dominic DiCenzo (CCPC), Tori Mascara (E2 Engineers), Miki Porta and Eileen Thomas (New Canaan Library), TJ Oneglia (O&G), Patrick A. Grasso (Urban Mining), Denise Grasso (Urbanizing Mining) and Frank Mruk (NRMCA). The Build With Strength program is a leader in supporting project teams in the crafting of high-performance, energy-efficient concrete buildings. Build With Strength will host a Developer Roundtable Event celebrating the 200th anniversary of portland cement on Monday, October 21, in McMinnville, OR. NRMCA, the Oregon Concrete and Aggregates Producers Association, Wilsonville Concrete Products, Solid Carbon and leaders from Pacific Northwest concrete and cement technology companies will discuss how decarbonizing the built environment today and in the future will take shape. Concrete is the backbone of modern society. What does the future hold? Industry experts will discuss the current production scale; planned production scale of innovative materials and what strategies are available today to lower the GWP of concrete. Thanks to the generous support of the ready mixed concrete industry, NRMCA is recognized as a leading advocate, spearheading the effort to reduce and eliminate embodied carbon in buildings, roads and infrastructure. This Oregon event represents NRMCA’s ongoing efforts to help build safe, sustainable and resilient communities across America. The Build With Strength platform is a leader in supporting structural engineers, architects, end users and specifiers in achieving low carbon, high-performance concrete. Click here to register. NRMCA has released a position statement titled Reliable Concrete Acceptance Testing for Improved Sustainability and Performance developed by the Research Engineering and Standards Committee. Highlights include:
As the cement and concrete industries are taking steps to move toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, this position statement provides an opportunity for the various stakeholders to come together. In addition to lowering the carbon footprint, concrete testing in accordance with standards will also help improve concrete performance, and reduce project costs and delays. The position statement has been endorsed by the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC). Click here to read the position statement.
