Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of the Army released its long-awaited proposal for a redefinition of the “Waters of the United States,” or WOTUS, which aims to clarify federal jurisdiction of waterways covered by the Clean Water Act (CWA). This latest proposal stands in stark contrast to the controversial 2015 WOTUS rule issued by the Obama Administration, which drastically expanded federal authority under the CWA.
NRMCA's Ready Mixed Concrete Delivery Professional Driver of the Year Award acknowledges the significant contribution of ready mixed concrete truck drivers to the growth and success of individual companies and the ready mixed concrete industry. As a salute to these key members of the concrete production and delivery team, the award recognizes the driver’s career achievement, safety, professionalism, competence and customer service skills in a manner that will enhance the industry and public image of the career of Ready Mixed Concrete Delivery Professional. The 2019 Ready Mixed Concrete Truck Driver of the Year Award winner will be honored at an awards presentation ceremony at NRMCA’s Annual Convention in Tampa, FL, in March. Registration for NRMCA’s Spring 2019 Safety Course from April 9 - 11 in Orlando, FL, continues; please note that it is expected to sell out very soon. This 2.5-day course teaches participants about OSHA safety compliance. It begins with why safety is so important and details the reasons why an effective safety program actually saves money through loss prevention and control. Participants learn about the new silica rule, electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, hazard communication, confined spaces, personal protective equipment, firefighting and evacuation, maintenance shop safety, chute handling, fleet safety, pre-trip inspection and much more. NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem recently gave a presentation titled Concrete Parking Lot Design with ACI 330, before some 80 professionals in West Jordan, UT. The lunch meeting was co-sponsored by the ACI Intermountain Chapter and the Utah Chapter of American Public Works Association. The leadership of the ACI Intermountain Chapter (ACI 2017 Excellent Chapter award winner) includes President Darren Smith, NRMCA Producer member Geneva Rock Products and Executive Director Tammy Meldrum. An overview of ACI 330 was provided as well as an outline of NRMCA’s Design Assistance Program and a demonstration of pavement design web-based software.
