Last week, NRMCA participated in the 2025 Wisconsin Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Symposium in Pewaukee. Shamim Rashid-Sumar, senior vice president, codes and standards, provided an update on SFPE activities as part of her role as president-elect of the Society. She also presented on Investigating ICF Wall Construction Meeting the Requirements of NFPA 285 to an engaged audience of fire protection engineers, code officials, inspectors and other construction professionals. The presentation highlighted the benefits of ICF construction from a fire protection perspective and detailed a recently completed fire testing project. NRMCA provides education for the fire protection engineering and building and fire code officials community as part of its advocacy strategy. Last week, NRMCA Safety, Environment and Operations (SEO) Department staff was on hand for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) announcement of its preliminary Top 10 Most Frequently Cited Violations for FY 2025 across both construction and general industry. The rollout of the latest data took place at the National Safety Council (NSC) Congress & Expo being held in Denver. OSHA annually releases the new information at the NSC event.
NRMCA's Ready Mixed Concrete Delivery Professional Driver of the Year Award, now in its 30th year and sponsored by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB), acknowledges the significant contribution of ready mixed concrete truck drivers to the growth and success of individual companies and the ready mixed concrete industry. As a salute to these key members of the concrete production and delivery team, the award recognizes the driver’s career achievement, safety, professionalism, competence and customer service skills in a manner that will enhance the industry and public image of the career of the Ready Mixed Concrete Delivery Professional. The award winner will be honored at NRMCA’s Annual Convention in Las Vegas, NV, in March 2026. Applications must be e-mailed to DOY@nrmca.org by November 30.

Tennessee Concrete Association (TCA) Executive Director Alan Sparkman and NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Amanda Hult recently attended the Tennessee Engineers' Conference 2025 in Cool Springs where Sparkman presented What is Type 1L Cement and Why Should I Care? and Hult discussed Addressing Myths about Concrete Pavements. Each session attracted a standing room only audience with attendees (some seen here) asking a host of questions of Sparkman and Hult.
