The estimated ready mixed concrete produced in April is 33.2 million cubic yards, 1.4% lower than that in April 2024. The estimated production in the U.S. through April is 106 million cubic yards, approximately 5.5% lower than that during the same period in 2024. Ready mixed concrete production is estimated from cement shipments reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. More detail is available here for NRMCA members under Production Statistics. Buildings
NRMCA's Darryl Dixon, AIA, senior director of energy codes, and Tiffany Reed-Villarreal, PE, director of sustainability codes and standards, attended the recent 2025 ASHRAE Summer Conference held in Phoenix to advocate for concrete buildings and sites in upcoming building standards. They engaged in project committee meetings centered on energy efficiency and high-performance building standards and addressed essential topics, including thermal performance of building envelopes, heat transfer through slabs and basements, and performance metrics for foundations, walls and insulation design. A significant portion of discussions focused on revised energy credits; final voting for many addendums is slated to appear in the next editions of Standards 90.1, 90.2 and 189.1. ASHRAE project committees continuously develop and update standards to incorporate the latest technical innovations. Through active participation in these committees, NRMCA's advocacy ensures concrete solutions to energy efficiency, sustainability and resiliency remain at the forefront of construction considerations. NRMCA’s Build With Strength education and promotion platform was represented recently by Senior Director, Building Innovations, Patrick Matsche at a multiday conference held by the Colorado Stone, Sand and Gravel Association in conjunction with the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association. The CRMCA/CSSGA Summer Conference is held annually, bringing together members from across the state for valuable networking and association updates. Attendees enjoyed a relaxed yet professional environment to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas and celebrate the industry’s successes. The conference closed with Board of Directors meetings for both CRMCA and CSSGA. “We look to the Build With Strength program to enhance our marketing efforts here in Colorado,” said CRMCA Executive Director Todd Ohlheiser. (Seen here, from left to right, are JT Mesite, Megan Kinghorn, Emma Dolan, Matsche, and Julie and Todd Ohlheiser.) The Build With Strength platform is a leader in supporting structural engineers, architects, end users, specifiers and member companies in achieving low carbon, high-performance concrete. For more information, contact Patrick Matsche at pmatsche@nrmca.org or 415-672-5275.
The Kentucky Concrete Association (KCA) recently attended a live demonstration of Floodbuster 1, Kentucky’s first 3D concrete printed (3DCP) structure located at Somerset Community College (SCC) in Somerset, KY. KCA Executive Director Brett Ruffing represented the concrete industry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky; both KCA and NRMCA members attended the event. NRMCA Associate member Sika Corporation donated raw materials, technology transfers and employee resources to SCC for the 3DCP program. Another NRMCA Associate member, Quickrete, also provided materials for the live demo while Producer member Irving Materials, Inc. (imi) provided concrete for the foundation and footers for the live demo.
