The National Council of Structural Engineering Associations (NCSEA) recently hosted its annual structural engineering summit in New York City, attracting prominent engineering professionals from across the U.S. as they pursued education and resources to further enhance the design profession. NRMCA’s Build With Strength initiative maintains a strong presence among this group, engaging in education, consulting and participation in code committees that influence various aspects of the build environment.
This year’s event was supported by numerous NRMCA personnel. In the structures realm, Senior Director, Building Innovations, Brandon Wray (seen here with his colleague Tiffany Reed-Villarreal), connected with structural engineering attendees, offering knowledge on performance-focused specifications, resilient design considerations and sustainable concrete practices that yield efficient concrete structures. Wray noted the appetite for performance specifications and low carbon concrete remains strong; he left the conference with various requests for NRMCA to help firms craft modern, future-proof specifications that will influence many upcoming projects.
The Build With Strength Codes and Standards team also maintained a strong presence, with participation in various code committee meetings that influence structures, sustainability and resilience. These efforts were supported by Senior Vice President, Shamim Rashid-Sumar (Fire), Director Tiffany Reed-Villarreal (Sustainability) and Director Dr. Julian Mills-Beale (Structural). They met with International Code Council (ICC) representatives to discuss ongoing collaboration and initiatives. To further advance concrete in the engineering space, NRMCA’s Reed-Villarreal also participated in a keynote session titled How to Include Sustainability In Your Technical Specifications.
