NRMCA’s FRESH Act Gains Momentum in Washington

While Members of Congress head back to their districts and states in August, NRMCA’s Government Affairs team continues to meet with key congressional offices and stakeholders on the FRESH Act, legislation that would allow states to apply state weight limits to federal roads within their state for perishable products, effectively streamlining weight limits within states and allowing loaded mixer trucks to access federal roads at state weight limits, including weight limits allowed under state tags or permits.

In addition to ready mixed concrete, the legislation would benefit agriculture and farm products as well as the asphalt and logging industries. Consequently, the FRESH Act is supported by a broad coalition of organizations, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, American Wood Council and the National Asphalt Pavement Association.

This policy has emerged as a top NRMCA priority as Congress looks at passing surface reauthorization legislation next year; NRMCA members are encouraged to come to Capitol Hill and lobby on this issue at this year’s Legislative and Policy Forum (see related E-NEWS item directly above).
