NRMCA Advocates for Concrete in ASHRAE Building Standards

NRMCA's Darryl Dixon, AIA, senior director of energy codes, and Tiffany Reed-Villarreal, PE, director of sustainability codes and standards, attended the recent 2025 ASHRAE Summer Conference held in Phoenix to advocate for concrete buildings and sites in upcoming building standards. They engaged in project committee meetings centered on energy efficiency and high-performance building standards and addressed essential topics, including thermal performance of building envelopes, heat transfer through slabs and basements, and performance metrics for foundations, walls and insulation design. A significant portion of discussions focused on revised energy credits; final voting for many addendums is slated to appear in the next editions of Standards 90.1, 90.2 and 189.1.

ASHRAE project committees continuously develop and update standards to incorporate the latest technical innovations. Through active participation in these committees, NRMCA's advocacy ensures concrete solutions to energy efficiency, sustainability and resiliency remain at the forefront of construction considerations.
