Next Concrete Innovations Session Focuses on Carbon Capture, Utilization

Concrete Innovations Session 30: Carbon Capture and Utilization is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern time. Achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the cement and concrete industry hinges on advancing carbon capture and utilization technologies. This session will explore cutting-edge strategies in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) to drive deep decarbonization. Key approaches include mineral carbonation, biologically derived binders and electrochemical processes that simultaneously produce cementitious materials and clean fuels.

The session will also highlight innovations in multi-functional concrete such as CO₂-sequestering formulations, Roman-inspired self-healing cements and electrically conductive energy-storing systems.  Beyond CCUS, discussions will extend to broader decarbonization efforts, the circular economy, and the latest advancements in tools, analytical methods and mix optimization through innovative admixtures. This comprehensive session will provide insights into the next generation of sustainable concrete technologies, offering solutions that reduce environmental impact while enhancing structural resilience and performance.
