Concrete Advancement Foundation Helps Host MIT CSHub Conference on Concrete Resilience

The Concrete Advancement Foundation (CAF) thanks the diverse group of key stakeholders who participated in last week’s MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub) Executive Roundtable on Resilience. Leaders in fire protection, insurance, engineering and design, building, resilience advocacy and academia came together with concrete industry leaders from CAF, NRMCA, PCA and individual companies for a powerful day of collaboration, highlighting barriers and solutions to advancing resilient construction practices and discussing potential solutions.

Key challenges identified included the perception of increased cost, inconsistent code enforcement, lack of incentives for resilient construction and limited consumer awareness about risks. Participants charted a path forward, highlighting some necessary steps to overcome these barriers, including developing standardized resilience rating systems, creating incentive programs, strengthening cross-sector collaboration and investing in broad education of consumers about return on investment.

With the support of the Foundation, the MIT CSHub will prepare a whitepaper to capture these insights and continue driving action toward a safer, stronger future.
