White House to Reconsider National Environmental Policy Act

Last week, the Biden Administration announced plans to rethink the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the main national policy that requires the federal government to consider environmental impacts prior to making decisions on public works projects such as highways, dams, airports, military bases, parklands and many more. The NEPA changes, proposed by the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), aims in part to roll back changes made to NEPA during the Trump Administration and add in environmental justice and climate change considerations.

As with previous advocacy efforts on this issue before, NRMCA will work toward beneficial industry outcomes and greater certainty surrounding project timeframes and permitting. The CEQ is accepting comments on the proposal through November 22, 2021.
