NRMCA Meets with EPA Administrator to Discuss Smart Sectors Program

Last week, NRMCA representatives met with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt and his senior staff to discuss a continued partnership via the EPA Smart Sectors Program. The meeting also included representatives from 13 other industry sectors that are also members of the Smart Sectors Program. While Administrator Pruitt gave some updates on upcoming regulatory items, there was also an industry question and answer session and his recognition of all the different industries for the work they do and their adherence to regulatory compliance. NRMCA’s Gary Mullings then highlighted the association’s Green-Star program which aims to recognize ready mixed concrete plants for their compliance and commitment to having an environmental management system (EMS). Administrator Pruitt acknowledged the importance of such programs and immediately directed his staff to look into how EPA can best support the Green-Star program.

The Smart Sectors Program will ultimately help the ready mixed concrete industry to better communicate its messaging to EPA on regulatory burdens, industry best management practices (BMPs) and industry environmental stewardship.
