Concrete Flatwork Seminars and Demonstrations Held in Oregon

NRMCA, partnering with the Oregon Concrete & Aggregates Producers Association (OCAPA) and the Northwest Cement Council, conducted concrete flatwork seminars/demonstrations in Wilsonville, Eugene and Bend, OR, from September 26 - 28. The classroom portion of the program was presented by NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don A. Clem, PE, while his colleague, Ken Justice, PE, NRMCA senior director, local paving, demonstrated how to properly place and finish concrete. The OCAPA Concrete Promotion Committee coordinated the three educational events which attracted over 110 professionals. The demonstrations were hosted by OCAPA member companies Wilsonville Concrete Products, Knife River NW, and Hooker Creek Companies, LLC.  These events tend to strengthen the relationship between ready mixed concrete producers and their contractor customers, noted Clem and Justice.

A leading Portland geotechnical engineer who attended reported, "I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated Don and Ken’s presentations and our sidebar discussions yesterday. The demo portion was very illustrative. This was a well-organized and well-presented program, and the content was germane to the Pacific NW."

Justice and Clem are seen here at the presentation in Bend. In the accompanying photo, Justice explains proper finishing sequence. For more information, contact Don Clem at dclem@nrmca.org or Ken Justice, kjustice@nrmca.org.
