Ohio Audiences Learn of Transparency Reporting Requirements in LEED v4 and NRMCA's Concrete Design Center

NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Julie Buffenbarger recently spoke to decision makers in Cincinnati and Columbus on the recently implemented U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4 reporting requirements. The programs were hosted by the Ohio Concrete Association’s Southeast/Central and Southwest regional promoters, Lisa Weaver Moon and John Davidson, respectively. Buffenbarger described the new transparent reporting requirements of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs) and responsible sourcing of materials.

Attendees also learned of viable initiatives NRMCA has undertaken over the last several years to meet the newly released LEED requirements, including development of industry-wide EPDs, Sustainable Concrete Plant Certification for Responsible Sourcing of Concrete and the guidance document on HPDs. She also presented the Concrete Sustainability Hub’s streamlined life cycle assessment modeling information that is useful in the initial design of LEED buildings. Buffenbarger closed the session with introduction of NRMCA's Concrete Design Center that offers Structural Design, Cost Estimates, Energy Analysis, LEED Optimization and Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments on projects.
