Denver Auto Dealership Completes Overlay Paving Project Begun in 2011

The concrete overlay test project placed in 2011 at the John Elway Chevrolet dealership in Denver is being completed this week, reports Jon Hansen, NRMCA vice president, national resources. The parking lot paving of three years ago involved 26,000 square feet of reconstructed parking area and 36,000 square feet of 3" concrete overlay on existing asphalt. The final phase of the project involves more than 80,000 square feet of 3" overlay to complete the project.

In 2011, a John Elway Chevrolet spokesman stated that Elway had committed his dealerships to becoming the greenest auto dealers in Colorado by minimizing their environmental impact. Some elements of their overall program are to reduce lighting, improve stormwater runoff quality and reduce maintenance with better life cycle cost material. Overlaying their existing asphalt with concrete is part of their overall plan. An added benefit of the concrete is the lighter, brighter background for displaying automobiles.

Dave Gray with NRMCA member GCC Cement in Denver convinced the Elway management last week to allow him on top of the dealership building to shoot video of the project's final phase along with the photo shown above.
